How to secure your beloved family photos.

Updated: Jan 12, 2022

Hello. Am I late for adding another New Year resolution on your list?

I’ve posted something similar on Instagram lately and I don’t want to sound like a broken record but this is important. And I guess, I will need to say this again and again until all my families have their beautiful galleries safely storage.

So let’s go step by step in our mission:

  1. Back up. Please make sure to take some time to make a copy of all your photos.

  2. Back up again! All your important files should be saved in at least two, ideally three different backups. That means that you can have a backup on your computer, a second one on a hard drive and finally a third on a cloud storage service. Does this sound like too much? It’s not. All our gadgets can crash or get lost.

  3. Cloud. Who doesn’t want to live in the clouds. Your files do! There are several options for online storage. You probably already have access to one of them for free and you can always pay for extra space. These are the most popular services out there

    • Amazon Photos. If you are an Amazon Primer member you have access to unlimited photo storage.

    • Dropbox. Free limited 2G storage

    • Google Photos. Free but limited storage

    • Microsoft Onedrive. Free limited 5Gb storage

    • Apple iCloud. Free limited 5Gb storage.

    • iDrive. Unlimited storage for $60 per year

5. Print. I know we all are busy but take the time to print your photos. Don’t overthinking it. It’s always better an imperfect printed album than no album at all. If you don’t have the time right now to make a thoughtful selection, just follow your heart and print your favorite 10 on standard size. Make this a regular task, repeat every 3 months and at the end of the year you will have enough images to put an album together.

If you have another storage service suggestion or any other good practice on how to storing safely, please share on the comments.
